What We Do

Radionor Communications is a supplier of next generation tactical broadband data links based on phased array antennas. The technology provides unmatched range and stability and is ideal for high-mobility applications. The technology has been proven with unmatched performance for tactical operations for manned and unmanned aircrafts, vessels, vehicles and man-carried equipment.

The Cordis Array II technology is our second generation phased array technology that has, since introduction, reached a mature state with an increasing number of users and application areas.

Our research team is committed to the task of continuing the mission of delivering unmatched capabilities for wireless connectivity.

We provide long-range tactical data link equipment for special operations. The applications include live streaming of high-resolution video combined with other high-bandwidth sensor data, Blue Force tracking, voice and connectivity for battle management systems. Our technology has been field proven and used in real operations. References available upon request.

We provide data links for high capacity air-to-ground and air-to-air systems. The point-to-multipoint capability makes the technology unique compared to conventional point-to-point technologies. We have a portfolio with successful integrations for several type of aircrafts and helicopters. We can deliver turnkey integration solutions for aircrafts and helicopters including certification.

Military Unmanned TV Production

We provide data links for unmanned systems both aircrafts, ground stations and vehicle systems. The data links provide long-range broadband connectivity combining high-definition video transfer with sensor control, mission control. The technology is ideal for combining connectivity for all mission-critical functionality for unmanned data links such as bandwidth control, priority for critical data transfer, error-free UDP streaming and latency control. The smart antenna technology has an additional option for high-speed tracking of the UAV with high precision, and can be utilized for satellite independent navigation. We have successfully integrated the technology on many different UAV’s – both fixed wing and rotary wing.

Military Aerospace TV Production

We provide data links for long-range video streaming systems related to TV production. Our IP based transfer systems provide easy integration with existing IP based video encoders and TV production systems. The IP connectivity provides lossless transfer of video signals in parallel with command and control traffic from the production center to the camera in front. The IP connectivity also enables a bi-directional voice connection from the production center to the camera operator. All these data streams operate in parallel using a single Cordis Array II transceiver panel.

CRE2-189

Vertically mounted panel with radio transceiver and antennas ideal for vessels and semi-mobile installations. The unit is fully compliant with the very most demanding class for electromagnetic compatibility and immunity according to MIL-STD-461F. The interface to the panel is power and Ethernet bundled in a single cable with a rugged MIL-DTL-38999 Series III connector for ultimate robustness in harsh environments. The unit has embedded AES-256 encryption in hardware. The maximum user data throughput is 15 Mbps. Supply voltage is 19-55 VDC. Dimensions are 37 x 37 x 14 cm. Weight is 12.5 kg.

CRE2-179

Horizontally mounted panel with radio transceiver and antennas ideal for small vessels, vehicle installations and for aerospace installations. The unit is fully compliant with the very most demanding class for electromagnetic compatibility and immunity according to MIL-STD-461F. The interface to the panel is power and Ethernet bundled in a single cable with a rugged MIL-DTL-38999 Series III connector for ultimate robustness in harsh environments. The unit has embedded AES-256 encryption in hardware. The maximum user data throughput is 15 Mbps. Supply voltage is 19-55 VDC. Dimensions are 35 x 35 x 7 cm. Weight is 9.5 kg.

CRE2-179-AERO

Horizontally mounted panel with radio transceiver and antennas ideal for UAV applications. The antenna panel has the same properties as CRE2-179, but with significantly lower weight adapted for UAV applications. The unit is fully compliant with the very most demanding class for electromagnetic compatibility and immunity according to MIL-STD-461F. The interface to the panel is power and Ethernet in separate cables. The unit has embedded AES-256 encryption in hardware. The maximum user data throughput is 15 Mbps. Supply voltage is 19-55 VDC. Dimensions are 26 x 30 x 8 cm. Weight is 2.7 kg.

CRE2-144-CAM

Compact radio transceiver and antennas ideal for portable or man-carried applications. The radio/antennas have very low weight to be mounted on top of a helmet. The radio has different interface options such as Ethernet for data networking or video inputs such as PAL, HDMI or HD-SDI. The interface to the radio is a power cable. The unit has embedded AES-256 encryption in hardware. The maximum user data throughput is 15 Mbps. Supply voltage is 9-36 VDC. Dimensions are 13 x 8 x 3 cm. Weight is 260 g.

CRE2-VIDEOSWITCH

Rugged Ethernet switch with two Ethernet ports and with built-in video converter that converts video input from PAL, HDMI or HD-SDI to UDP IP streaming. The unit is ideal for installations in vessels or vehicles with both video input and IP connectivity combined. Supply voltage is 19-36 VDC. Dimensions are 36 x 30 x 10 cm. Weight is 8.5 kg.

Our Technology

Long-range Broadband Phased Array Antennas

The Cordis Array II series is the next generation technology solution for point-to-multipoint tactical data links. The system forms a wireless IP connectivity between multiple points with an unmatched range and bandwidth.

Compared to conventional point-to-point systems, the Cordis Array II has an electronically steerable beam that constantly optimizes the direction of transmission and reception. The electronic steering involves no moving parts, and enables the beam to be steered instantly in the direction to communicate with a moving object. The capability to establish a long-range tactical data link with a point-to-multipoint capability – and with broadband capability.

The Cordis Array II unit is an integrated radio and antenna panel that provides IP network connectivity between the radio stations. The connection to the antenna is an Ethernet cable – the same type of interface used in all computers and networks. The IP based system makes it inter-operable with all other IP based systems, and makes integration of systems through Cordis Array II data links easy and efficient.


Smart Antenna Technology

Conventional tactical radio technology

The picture shows how a conventional tactical radio technology where the radio waves propagate in all directions from the transmitter. This results in reduced operational range since most of the radio wave power is wasted in non-relevant directions. It also causes more interference for other radio systems operating on the same frequency, and makes the transmitter an easy target for unwanted tracking and monitoring.

The picture shows a conventional motorized tracking antenna system with a narrow antenna beam directed in the direction of interest. The narrow antenna beam focuses the energy in the direction of interest and increases the operational range. Because the beam is locked with a motorized system, it can only operate as a point-to-point link. The motorized tracking antenna has a limited rotation speed that will not be able to track a fast moving unit.

The picture shows the Cordis Array II technology where a narrow beam being steered to the direction of interest with no moving parts. The antenna beam is electronically steered and can change direction so fast that it follows a fast moving target. Even if the moving target exceeds the speed of sound, the Cordis Array II technology will be able to keep track.


Point-to-Multipoint Capability

Conventional motorized tracking antenna technology is only for point-to-point links where one ground station antenna provides a data link to a UAV. For each UAV there is one ground station antenna.

The Cordis Array II technology with electronically steerable antennas is able to change the direction of the antenna instantly. This unique feature enables a single ground antenna to operate several UAV’s simultaneously. This point-to-multipoint functionality provides connectivity to all units in the network even if all units are moving.

Non-line-of-Sight Operation

Challenging applications that require link also in non-line-of sight conditions will benefit from the high output power and sensitive reception system provided by the narrow beams in the Cordis Array II technology.

The Cordis Array II technology can endure a very high propagation path and will be able to operate beyond the direct line-of-sight with a performances exceeding conventional tactical radio systems.
